"Dear David Suzuki" Wins Gold at First Hamilton 24 Hour Film Festival

The Science MediaLab (participating as team "Scottbot"), partnered with a few members from AVTek, took first place in the Hamilton 24 Hour Film Festival on Saturday night to a packed house at the FreeWay Cafe in Downtown Hamilton. The winning entry: "Dear David Suzuki" featured Jon McAllister delivering a tongue-in-cheek message to Canada's favourite environmentalist on issues ranging from soaring gas prices to recycling.

The event kicked off a week earlier at 8:00pm on May 30th at the Staircase Theatre. The organizers randomly drawed three elements (a location, a prop, and a line of dialogue) that needed to be included within the film. This was to prevent people from filming content before the event and to put everyone on the same playing field.

The three elements that were selected were:

1. Location: Playground
2. Prop: Toilet plunger
3. Line of Dialogue: "Cuz, like you said, this is it, this is life."
