Creating and distributing DVDs for courses is often overlooked as a
method of delivering important materials. The Media Lab is capable of
producing DVD's for both set-top (television) and computer systems.
Many of our other services including eLearning, Video Services and Web Design can be outputted to a DVD disc.
Benefits of using DVD?s on campus include:
- Cost effective - DVD's can cost anywhere between $3.00 and $5.00 to reproduce, saving your students money
- Interactivity
- eLearning products on a DVD disc provide students with a deeper level
of interaction and quick access to web-resources
- Longevity - students have an artifact from the class to retain long after online access is lost
- Reduced paper-usage ? students can choose to print only the relevant notes from a disc
- Scalability - a single disc holds hundreds of times more content than a book
Drawbacks to using DVD's on campus:
- Despite being plastic, DVD's are not recyclable*
- It's easier to lose a DVD than a book
- Once scratched or bent, the Disc may not play again
